VMWare Fusion or Parallels with Multiple Monitors

November 13, 2007 23:12 by mmcconnell1618

I've tried out both Fusion 1.1 and the latest Parallels beta with multiple monitors. I'm not happy with either one. Currently, VMWare doesn't support multiple monitors (even in Unity mode) so you lose 50% of your screen real estate when using your virtual machine. Parallels (latest version of 3) does support multiple monitors in Coherence mode but in a strange way. Parallels treats both physical screens as one giant screen. If both monitors are the same dimension then everything seems to work smoothly. However, if you've got a laptop screen at one resolution and an external monitor at a different resolution you have problems. Windows can get cut off on one screen or another depending on where you move them.
